Introduction Toys4Therapy

Physical therapies
Physical therapies are often uninviting, repetitive and boring. In the case of children with spastic hand (from Cerebral Palsy), it is recommended that they do exercises on daily basis and at home. Current tools are too expensive and only available at the rehabilitation centers. (Tamara Pinos C, 2019)

Toys
Toys support children's development by encouraging imagination and social play, stimulating physical or mental activity, and promoting the discovery of new ways to play. Hence, we will like to explore the use of smart-toys for hand therapy for children who are 8-12 years old. (Tamara Pinos C, 2019)

Smart-toys
Smart toys can be defined as new forms of toys featuring both tangible objects and electronic components to improve the playing experience or educational purposes. (Smart Toy Based Learning, 2014)

Some of the added values of using smart-toys:
• The increase of intrinsic motivation
• Participation of family and friends
• Gathering of data that can be used by the therapists and improve the play experience. (Tamara Pinos C, 2019)
Research question
How can data & technology add to the playfulness of smart-toys used in therapies?
